Llanbrynmair to Llangadfan
10.25 miles
about 6 hours with the sheep
Bleak and bare dining area
Security camera. I smiled into it while re-tying the boots.
Andrew Meeks (kept thinking of the film "Meeks Crossing) my host, had all the dealings with me: served the tea and shortbread yesterday, brought breakfast this morning to the odd eating area (no windows and not very pleasant) wore shorts and flip flops and the same shirt both days (but who am I to talk about wearing the same shirt for days in a row), Andrew also ran the local store connected to Wynnstay House.
Local school
When I was shown to my room yesterday Andrew brought up a handful of supplies (Smartwater, apple juice, full package of chocolate chip cookies (.59 p), and the rest of the package of shortbread. Looked like he just took all the food things off the shelf of his store.
NOTHING cooked for breakfast today. Had museli with sliced banana and Welsh Rhubarb yogurt. I love the rhubarb yogurt and keep looking at Copps, but so far not on their shelves.
Very STEEP slope it was necessary to climb up because I missed the path.
Down in the Valley is the village from last night.
Knocked on family door to their private area when leaving this morning as there were a couple questions to be asked of them, and wife, who I hadn't seen before, greeted me in a shortie nightgown. Guess it was a very homey place.
Sheep hair. This must have been from the farm of purple sheep.
Baa baa NO more :(
Someone recently walked this route with a donkey.
Wandered off into pasture with cattle. First they all came and gathered in a cluster staring at me, then as a group ran off. Cattle must have thought "oh, another wandering American who missed the trail and came uninvited into our pasture".
Roamed around mountain tops looking for the route. Must say, Glyndwr's Way has been a bit difficult. The trail is well marked in places, but you have to be on the exact trail to find the way marks. If slightly off, it can become Way Off.
Pony with her colt.
Bogs for the first time on this long walk. Bogs lasted for almost an hour, but the wild ponies were a great distraction between bog leaping.
One pony had a very young colt. At least it looked young because of the tiny size.
Mud is slippery the feet were reminded of. So far there have been no falls or slips or near mini disasters, but today when stepping on to a muddy wooden plank to cross a small flowing stream, the boot slid out from under the body. Good thing the hand had already grabbed the railing. The boot left a nice long greasy/muddy path on the plank, but the body stayed upright.
Arrived in Llangadfan and easily found Cwpan Pinc, the village shop and vintage tea (only place in the village and not very "vintage". Got a bottle of sparkling elderflower water. Waited outside at a table for 2 hours for tonight's host to arrive to collect me. Had asked that wife this morning in her nightie if she would make the call to say what time I would be at the pickup location as my phone didn't work. The absentminded wife seems not to have made the call.
Apparently the B&B is at least a half hour drive away, and tomorrow morning this walker will be returned to this spot to begin where today left off. Didn't mind the wait as just sitting in the warm sun was pleasant and there were many people coming and going from the vintage tea shop to watch, and few sat near by and we chatted.
Yea and butterfly cake.
Walk a mile to dinner across the dam which is holding back Lake Vyrnwy , then UP hill
Diane said they have purebred sheep and are used to being handled. Wonder where she keeps the touchables???
