Llangadfan to Pont Llogel
10 easy miles
6 hours
Last nights vegetarian chili was very good. Lots of veggies. Could have been more spicy.
The roadway goes over the dam.
See that speck up on the hill? That is the hotel.
After walking that mile and a half Up hill to the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel for dinner last evening, but mostly to use their wifi, the timing didn't work to have a FaceTime chat with Gary. That was disappointing :(
Maybe today will be better, (IT WAS) and if not today, there is always tomorrow to hope for good vibes, or rather good connections to the world beyond these valleys and mountains.
There is a sculpture park below the dam. Walked about a bit, but not too long. It gave me the creeps to be down below all that water!!
Welcoming? Door knocker on this house.
Bed has a canopy and lots of pillows
Excess pillows
Breakfast was cooked by Ian today. Three egg omelet/soufflé with mushrooms, goat cheese, and tomatoes. Stuffed this walker. But it was delicious. Have probably eaten a years quota of eggs already. Probably should stop.
Omelette
Missed trail almost immediately when starting out, and ended up following three sheep families up the drive to their farm. Those sheep knew how to cross the cattle grate, mothers and children just stepped carefully on each grate.
Ended with a Chubby bristled farmer redirected this wandering walker towards the correct path. Told him about the sheep at bottom of hill with a bad bad leg, it was limping. He said "Oh, you walkers are so concerned about he wounded animals, but not the people who limp". That isn't necessarily true, but I don't suppose he would like if I recited all the limping people encountered.
Practically a rest day with only ten miles and empty backpack. Felt rather invigorating. Tomorrow back to the real thing.
Husband and wife Ian and Diane Have the two homes. The B&B (which has just been put on the market) and the cottage where the purebred sheep live a few miles away up "at the farm". Apparently the wife Diane lives up at the farm, or at least part time. They have three daughters and one lives in Ireland so their travels in the off season involved hopping over to that other green island.
Removing an entire forested mountain top.
Coronation chicken sandwich.
Basically today's entire route was through dense forest. Guess who made up her own alternative path???? ME. I hate being under the trees and seeing nothing around but not trees, and more trees. I did not come all this way to walk in the woods. Give me the high open ground with views for miles and miles. My element!
Weak bridge and the wooden planks bounced when I walked across. Must be dangerous in a car.
Youngest/smallest lamb seen yet.
Some of the Ups have a steep sloped angle that today after pausing to breath I realized reminded me of standing on the incline board to give tight calf muscles the stretch recommended.
Goeffwysfa B&B
Walked with a local man and his dog up and over a mountain. He talked about hiking the Pennine Way last year. It was Difficult. As it was a route I had considered and rejected, was pleased for the cast off idea. This Glyndwr's Way is proving a bit difficult.
No pheasants were where they were supposedly should have been. Had looked forward to seeing them. Learned later that it depends on where the "shoot" is, meaning the sport of shooting pretty birds.
Funny route today as it began with being dropped off at the vintage tea shop. But first we had to stop and collect an older women work gimpy knees. This walker was assigned to the back seat.
Midday the Trail went right past where I stayed last night and tonight. Saw my host Ian as I was going through the little village. Told him it was arranged that his wife will come and collect me in 3 hours down the trail at a certain spot, by a certain red phone booth, by a certain yard that had recent been burned to help re growth
Tank top I had discarded in the garbage in my room back at Brandy Farm from the first night on Glyndwr's Way showed up tonight. The hosts Richard and Madina delivered it here. Diane even washed it for me. Guess I will take it along for a further ride.
Thank you Brandy Farm.
There is a guy standing outside the hotel in the rain (where I am sitting to write this on their wifi) up on a slight hill, waving his phone in the air, supposedly hoping for the nonexistent phone signal. Had to laugh
