Trekking Offa's Dyke one way - checked off list

Day 22 Walking
Bodfari to Prestatyn
12.30 miles
7 hours

That farm house was ICY COLD!  The socks and underwear didn't dry at all.  Had to carry the additional weight today, in a plastic bag, and continued the process tonight.

There was a Croissant!!  snuggled up next to the cold brown toast.

Mrs Price and I agreed that when I return to her place tomorrow night she will not cook the prearranged meal as Lois can not eat that quantity of food. So no need for her to work and prepare it.

Two people staying here work on the Wind Farms. They came in late last evening while I was sitting in the "assigned"'chair, the only chair, the chair where a connection to the wifi might be available (not very dependable), and told Mrs Price they would be getting up at 2:30 am to go to work.  Long hours those wind farms demand of their workers.

Warmer outside than inside that old home.

Mini wind generator.

There is a gate in the tree line with a acorn symbol on it. Another clue is the slightly trodden grass to help a walker know where to aim for.

Stopped in sheep pasture shortly after starting up the first incline.  Took off boots, socks, pants and put on the skort for this first time.  Lily white legs (not Lily my pug pup) are now exposed.

Climbed stile and ended up with a herd of young cows. They all stood still.  They all stared. They were not attracted to Lois.  Good, but, also sad as I kind of liked my herd who loved me the other day with their huge cow eyes and big lips.  Something exciting to anticipate in a few days....cow love.

Passed through a community called Sodom (but no Gomorra on the map).  Sodom was a speck of about two houses.

"Signs Signs Everywhere are signs, blockin' out the scenery".  Five Man Electric Band.  Follow the correct sign with the acorns and life will be good until the next sign, or missed sign.

What is this?  The modern world flowing very fast by.  Thankful for a walking bridge!

Brown horse was very loving and wanted attention. Didn't want me to leave his/her (didn't check) field.

To eat or not to eat - that is the question - best not.

Quite a nice "cottage".

Came down from the land of high hills (finally) and arrived in the world of normal people.  Prestatyn. The end/start of Offa's Dyke Path. A very touristy place known for its seaside (Irish Sea) location and three miles of beach (high tide when I was there so no beach, but a great Boardwalk).

Did the Official ending to the route.  Went and got the boots sort of wet in the sea. Took the traditional photos. Had the Offa Dyke Completion form signed, and the START of Offa's Dyke started for tomorrow's return trip.

IRISH SEA!!!!

Ate a vanilla ice cream bar on arrival to celebrate. Later had a small chicken curry pastry.

Found the B&B - Plas Ifan Chapel.  It used to be a chapel back in the 1700's. Lovely home with a fantastic garden.  Malcolm offered me tea.  It was turned down. Too hot. Had an orange squash with ice cubes instead. Tasted like a cross between orange soda and KoolAid.

The room is rather small.  No problem.  It is a room and my own, and the bathroom is small, but my own, going out and down the hall is not required.

Sunroom addition on the back where breakfast will be in the morning.

Shower reminds me of our tiny camper.  Shower just sprays all over the toilet. But it was hot water!!!!

Malcolm sent me down to meet his neighbor at #12 (yes, this is more of a city where the streets have names and buildings numbers).  John is a wood carver.  Felt a bit odd walking up the door, knocking and his wife, who was giving a French lesson, interrupted it to send me around back to John's studio. John carves birds in wood and Collects driftwood ivy from the rivers to use for his bases.  He has three galleries who handle his work in North Wales, South Wales, and Scotland.

Walked back to the town in clean (well sort of clean) clothes, and deodorant (probably more important than the clothes).  Wandered about and found the mini shopping mall.  There was a Marks and Spencer, a few other clothing stores, a Pound Store (think Dollar Tree), and a Tesco which turned out to be a HUGE modern grocery store.  Lois just wandered about gaping at the abundance of Everything.  Left without making any purchase.

Stopped at a Take Away Kabob place and brought a Lamb Shish Kabob with chili sauce and salad back to my room.  Nothing to eat it with so used the tiny spoon intended for the coffee cup.  By salad they mean a bit of lettuce, a bit of cabbage, and quite a bit of raw onion.

Foyle's War is on tonight. Michael Kitchen.

And the boots will onward trek tomorrow back to Chepstow.  The boots, but especially the person with the feet inside, are looking forward to re-seeing this beautiful country, and will try to fill in the blanks for the many things missed on the northward trek.

Feet, depart the Irish Sea, go South, aim for the Severn Estuary, over hill, down dale, up mountain, down valley, across pasture, re-greet sheep, cows, horses, rabbits...and maybe see a hedgehog (heard they are nocturnal, along with being practically extinct, so chances are that a living one will be seen are slim), be welcomed back by B&B hosts who have NEVER had a walker return. A bit of semi fame in a low populated area.
